D3N!@L VS. MILK

D3N!@L (http://www.denialart.com/), Windsor's most notorious and most talented artists, wages his war on society at Milk Coffee Bar (68 University Ave West, Windsor) this Saturday (September 27th). You'll see the new junk drawer series and a 3-d grafitti sculpture that pushes the boundries of the art form. The day also marks the day of D3N!@L's birth, so a celebration is in order and boy does this guy deliver. On top of some reallt interesting art, see and hear the music of Submental, Flow, Kero and The Peace Leeches. Should be a riot. For a sneak peak of the the 3-d graf, check out the link below.

Edison+Monome=The Shit.

Just thought I'd let you know about this really cool piece of technology my friend Kero introduced me to. It's one of the coolest things i've seen in a while. It's the Monome. Here's a brief discription from their web site (monome.org):

adaptable, minimalist interfaces.

three models: two fifty six (16×16), one twenty eight (16×8), and sixty four (8×8).
each is a reconfigurable grid of backlit keypads which connects to a computer. interaction between the keys and lights is determined by the application running on the computer. there is no hard-wired functionality.

this new series evolved from the 40h which began as an interface for our own music performance and art practice. we also make available a kit version which allows users to create their own 40h-like devices.

applications:

live sample cutters, math simulations, drum machines, generative controllers, tonal maps, games, visualizations. we make available all sources to encourage community contribution and enthusiasm. we share and thrive. There are a lot of great electronic musicians using this device to do some really cool stuff but from what I've seen, a chap by the name of Edison takes the cake. Check out this video. It is simply fantastic.

So what IS Fire Sculpture?
"Fire sculpture" harnesses the beauty of fire as a creative, performative act: the beauty of "Fire Sculpture" is not limited to the creation of a beautiful object (what is traditionally considered the "art"), but is rather focused on how each unique sculpture burns. Skilled fire artists are able to use a minimum of means to control and shape the fire, to choke oxygen in order to control tempo and pace, and to manipulate the burning pattern so that the fire sculpture doesn't resemble, or burn, like a bonfire. The big art "burn" is fleeting, kinetic and encompasses a singular moment that can never be precisely restaged. The lasting value of the unique art form of “Fire Sculpture” is literally created before--and in--the spectator's eyes: the final "art work" is only completed when the sculptures are finally torched and witnessed by the crowd.
WHO'S PARTICIPATING???
The 2008 Fahrenheit Fest opens this year with fiery performances and feats of daring by members of Detroit's acclaimed FIRE FABULON Troupe.
The BIG ART BURN of 15+ Fire Sculptures will feature works by talented artists from Windsor and Essex county and from across Canada. The 6th annual “Fahrenheit Festival” is a special fundraising venture of Artcite Inc., and is made possible with the generous assistance of the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Town of LaSalle’s Department of Recreation and Leisure Services. Many thanks for their generous support! Artcite also acknowledges the additional support of its members and volunteers and the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council and the City of Windsor.

All You Can Eat... Until October 4th...

Just thought I'd let you know about Artcite Inc.'s (http://www.artcite.ca/) latest, greatest art show. 'All you can eat" by Montreal artist Karine Giboulo fuses illustration and and sculpture to demonstrate the relation between western consumer society as well as the Chinese work force that makes our gluttonous behaviours possible. It's a great show, I recommend anyone and everyone to go see it. But you only have until October 4th when the show comes down. Artcite is open to the public Tuesday-Saturday (12pm-6pm) so be sure to check this out.

Final Episode of N.T.B.T.S.?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Episode 6 of 'Nirvana The Band The Show' was just posted on their website (http://www.nirvanathebandtheshow.com/) a few days back. The episode ends with a huge reveal that puts the future of the band in jeopardy and leaves me wondering if there will be a next episode at all.

If you didn't know, Nirvana The Band The Show is one of the funniest web t.v. shows out there. The show follows the misadventures of Matt Johnson & Jay McCarrol (best friends/musical duo) and their plight to book their band at the Rivoli, a respected music venue in downtown Toronto. Think 'Flight of the Conchords' but more reality based and extremely Canadian.

Watch all 6 episodes and the extras. I promise you won't be disappointed. These guys are hilarious. Let's hope they stick around.

Playlist: Productive Confusion - 9/22/2008

Kicked off today's show with some Hotkid (http://www.hotkid.ca/). They played the Phog Lounge (157 University Ave. West, Windsor) this past Friday. What a kick ass rock duo. Their sound is raw, heavy and from the heart. They're from the Cambridge area and will be playing the Phog again in just a couple weeks (Oct.1oth w/ LesboVrouven). The turn out the other day could have and should have been bigger, so really, don't miss them when they roll through.

So ya, this is the first post... the first of many... the first of 480+ posts over the next 365 days... that's 1.33 posts a day, or 4 posts every 3 days... shit... what have I gotten myself into...
Anyhow, here are the details of today's show as well as the download links. Remember you can always tune in live Monday's from 2:30pm-4:00pm on 91.5FM in Windsor -Detroit; & Worldwide at http://www.cjam.ca/.
